Character education is important today


Schools today should taken the lead in critical and character education that aims to give students enough knowledge of what virtues and vices entail to act virtuously and discourage vice in daily life. Although it offers a vast improvement over the absence of value talk in the classroom, it is still problematic. This is because of the challenged posed on its' application where doing the right thing at the right time in the right way is essential. In order to encourage students to admit to this basic principals of moral education , teacher need the capacity of giving simple instruction. Character education accompanied by critical education is not the same kind of education  students receive in mathematics or history, where the ultimate goal is acquiring knowledge. We need to inspire students to practice and apply virtues, and in doing so, we help them run up against the messiness of life.

Batticaloa, Kalladi, Thirukovil workshops

Our workshops in Batticaloa, at the peace village, Kalladi, Thirukovil concluded successfully. The themes that were covered were on identifying environmental problems affecting these communities, a brainstorming session was conducted, followed by writing action plans. The participants were divided into home groups where they learnt community servicing and the importance of living as a community. Some snap shots of the program. We invited eminent leaders in the community to share their journey who at no cost were willing to share their journey with us.
